- "AMAZING! Me and my girlfriend did the Symposium and Food Tour in Athens with Costantina. What an amazing experience! These are the stuff that really add value to your time. Costantina is an incredibly joyful person, who is able to share her enthusiasm while telling interesting stories about Athens and the Greek world in general. Our trip wouldn't be the same if we didn't do these experiences! It is not recommended, it is a must!"

2. What you can expect
A symposium was a very important social event for the Ancient Greeks. Their houses included a ‘symposium’ room, where they would invite friends to spend the evenings after a long day. They would spend their time having a convivial discussion about politics, philosophy and gossips while drinking wine and listening to music. The shared experiences and bonds formed at the symposium would carry over to their daily lives and shape the compromises that became democracy!
Arriving at the meeting place, you will start your journey into Greek antiquity at the art gallery. You will first trace the development of the armature technique in Ancient Greece and learn the secrets of making a war helmet from an expert. You can also hold ancient Greek swords and take pictures like an Ancient Greek warrior. You will, then, marvel at beautiful paintings inspired by the vast Greek Mythology, depicting important events and famous stories. This will be a unique opportunity to understand the mindset of Ancient Greeks, their beliefs and why they created those elaborate stories.
Next up in your experiential journey will be the sculpture room, where you will discover the secrets behind the magnificent Greek sculptures that you marvel at in the archaeological sites and Museums. With the guidance of a contemporary expert Greek sculptor, you will have the chance to apply the techniques you learned and create your very own sculpture from original Cretan clay, a souvenir you can take with you to remember this experience by!
After a lot of fun and creation, the final stop of your journey will be the symposium room. Your Ancient character ‘travels’ to the island of Crete, at the heart of the great Minoan civilization, after a special invitation from the legendary King Minos. Entering the symposium room, you will meet God Dionysus, the Ancient Greek god of wine, theater and religious ecstasy. You will make your offerings for a fruitful Symposium and handle Ancient Greek household items, like amphorae. Enjoy the hospitality of Ancient Greeks, relax, discuss and laugh! Get initiated into the Ancient Greek techniques of vinification and drink Greek wine in a kylix made in the original Ancient Greek way, while enjoying bits of Cretan snacks! Recite Homer, discuss the latest gossips of Athens and philosophize about Eros and Love like Plato in his ‘Symposium’!
